A sequence of lessons to integrate positional language in mathematics with digital technologies.
1. Introduce the idea of a maze by drawing a simple maze composed of straight lines on the board. Ask students to image a robot that has to navigate the maze using the commands forwards, left and right.
Students then guide each other through a real maze composed of skipping ropes outside.
2. Students draw their own mazes on grid paper and then swap them asking their partner to write a sequence of instructions to guide a robot through the maze.
3. Students use Scratch Jnr. on iPads and create a custom background representing their maze. Students create a sequence of instructions for the sprite on the screen to move through the maze.
