I've already tried visual programming using the Hour of Code activities myself and also with my class. I utilized pair programming, but now see the tweaks that I can do to that to make it more effective.
I am currently a mentor for a Robotics club and "debugging" is definitely something that my students needs more resilience in. I recently worked with a group who had huge problems debugging their work. Eventually they worked out that they were picking the wrong program to run on their robot, even though they had downloaded the right one. This was a process of trial and error that they became very frustrated with, but a few prompts from myself helped. I did, in fact, tell them that I wouldn't be solving it for them.
