"I have already tried visual programming"
I use a design thinking approach for students to explore code/robotics. My students work in groups of three or four. The students are required to communicate and collaborate when they are designing their thinking.
Students require the opportunity to develop their skills in using the resources. That’s where the standalone lessons come into play. Students need to know the ins and outs of a resource in order to know how to use it for a purpose.
It is important for students to work collaboratively in small groups that will enable them to think critically and relate with others. Students use the following process: Prototype – Pitch- Feedback- Amend prototype – Build
Present Evaluate. Through this process the students are able to meet their learning goals and reflect if their creation achieved the desired outcome.
