Students work collaboratively to develop a dynamic model of the solar system. To build skills and knowledge students had to complete a series of mini tasks that increased in complexity and provided all the skills necessary to make a dynamic model of the solar system. Scaffolding prompts that the teacher could use to assist students in their collaboration were developed. These strategies made it possible to assist students without giving them the answer. The linked Powerpoint document (download and open in PowerPoint) outlines each strategy and what it could sound like in the classroom.

Ideally, these strategies would be used in a situation where a whole class of students are collaborating on the same problem. (In this case the Visit the Sun minitask.) #cserTask1Scaffolding for programming.ppt
