Jean M▸ U2: Algorithms & Programming
In my school, students have access to a computer lab. We have used the task of walking to and from the classroom as an opportunity to introduce some key programming statements. Students have engaged in discussions around the need to walk through the school quietly so as to consider the needs of other members of the community etc. Then, when looking at the sequence of steps of walking to the class directional cards were displayed and we planned our walk. Students would point in the direction of where we needed to walk. Initially, we would do this step by step – but as students become more familiar with the process, repetition could be included and generalisations made. This has then been applied to other purposes within their school day.
