For this task I chose to complete the blockly game, Maze challenge. The challenge was quite enjoyable. There were 10 levels and each level became increasingly difficult so when it came to the last level, it took a long time to complete. It became frustrating and required a lot of patience, persistence and abstract thought to be able to complete. Qualities, by the way, that we want to instill in our students.
I could see a program like this being used in Geography or Mathematics, using directions such as North, South, East and West to move towards a goal on a map or grid. I can see students planning and writing code for a maze like game where their character needs to reach the treasure on the island.
This would be a simple and engaging way to introduce visual programming to the class.
