- Explain what you think are some of the key differences between cyber security, cyber awareness and cyber safety. To what extent are you teaching these in the classroom or to what extend do you think they should be taught and why?
Cyber Security involves students understanding that technological devices and networks are not always safe and that they can be hacked, resulting in data and information being stolen. It involves knowing how these systems can be protected aka. with firewalls, hashing etc.
Cyber Awareness involves students knowing how to protect their information while using technologies. This can include creating a complex password and using two-factor authentication and knowing what information is private and should not be shared online.
Cyber Safety involves behaving safely and appropriately on the internet. This can include students communicating respectfully with people online, citing where their sources have come from, and understanding that whatever they say online will be there forever.
These are all extremely important ideas that need to be explicitly taught in the classroom because we live in a technological age. So much is shared online these days, and students need to be equipped with the tools to protect their private information and share things responsibly on the internet.
