U3: Math Connections

I set up a treasure map in a Bee Bot plastic mat. I also used wooden blocks for an island and reefs. This gave it a more three dimensional feel. Children had to find as many different ways as they could to go from any bottom square to the cross. They were required to program the entire route in one go. It really demonstrated children who grasped the concept of coding the Bee Bot, some even used the reverse feature.

Next level up – children created their own maze using wooden blocks and other children had to manoeuvre there Bee Bot through it. They found this fun. I have also had children use masking tape to design a maze on the carpet.
