When doing Blockly I found it frustrating when working out what the blocks did and how they worked together to carry out the task. I imagine that perseverance for some children will be a challenge. I can see that initially it would work better in pairs whilst getting used to the language of programming.
My name is Kate and I am a curriculum coordinator in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide. I work with 12 schools and 250 teachers. I really enjoyed the F-6 Foundations course and have used so much of the learning from that course but am now wanting to move teachers further with their technologies learning with 'Next Steps' sessions which I am hoping to get ideas from through this course! I just had a play with Blockly games, Scratch junior and Scratch. Many of my students have limited internet access so I shall also use Blockly's offline options. Now that I have seen the other sites that people have posted, I shall try cargo bot and a few other recommendations to see the value for my students in their DT learning. Hopefully they will be as engaged as I am.

I would use Beebot to look at some of the maths and digital technologies outcomes.
Lesson 1 – Firstly I would let the children explore Beebot and how to program it. Children would discuss what they found and how Beebot worked.
Lesson 2 – Plan a route for Beebot. Create a set of instructions or flow chart for others to use and program Beebot. Can they program Beebot to the same place.

This book tells the story of a little boy who find a penguin at his doorstep. He then comes up with a plan to get him back home. I would use Scratch or Blockly to design a course for the boy to use. Flowcharts could be created in order for decomposition and steps to be followed. There is also an animation of the story which could be used as an extension. It covers the following: Generating and Designing (ACTDIP019) Design, modify and follow simple algorithms involving sequences of steps, branching, and iteration (repetition).
